Japan: No End in Sight to Nuclear Disaster

Newsmax | Wednesday, 30 Mar 2011 06:47 AM

TOKYO – Japan said it would upgrade its safety standards for nuclear power plants on Wednesday, its first acknowledgement that norms were insufficient when a tsunami wrecked one of its facilities, triggering the world’s worst atomic disaster since Chernobyl in 1986.

The announcement came as the government conceded that there was no end in sight to the crisis and a spike in radioactive iodine levels in seawater added to evidence of reactor leakages around the complex and beyond.

Plutonium finds in soil at the plant this week had already have raised public alarm over the accident, which has overshadowed the humanitarian calamity triggered by an earthquake and tsunami on March 11 that left 27,500 people dead or missing and hundreds of thousands homeless.

“We are not in a situation where we can say we will have this under control by a certain period,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news briefing.

Japanese radiation reaches Alabama

Tuscaloosanews.com

By Dana Beyerle Montgomery Bureau Chief | Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 3:30 a.m.

MONTGOMERY | Trace amounts of radiation from the ongoing Japanese nuclear plant crisis have shown up in Alabama, the Environmental Protection Agency said Monday.

Radioactive isotopes from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant, which was damaged during the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, have been detected in air filters at monitoring sites in Alabama and eight other states and Pacific islands.

“This is slightly above (normal) background … and far below health concerns,” EPA spokeswoman Davina Marraccini said in a telephone interview.

The EPA said that detailed filter analyses from 12 RadNet air monitor locations, including one in Montgomery, produced trace amounts of “radioactive isotopes consistent with the Japanese nuclear incident.”

The 12 monitoring sites are in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Washington state, Guam, Saipan and the Northern Mariana Islands.

“Some of the filter results show levels slightly higher than those found by EPA monitors last week and a Department of Energy monitor the week before,” the EPA said.

Radiation detected in Massachusetts rainwater as Fukushima crisis worsens

Mike Adams

March 28, 2011

The Fukushima crisis continues to worsen by the day, with nuclear experts around the world finally realizing and admitting we’ve all been lied to. “I think maybe the situation is much more serious than we were led to believe,” said Najmedin Meshkati of the University of Southern California, in a Reuters report (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011…). That same article revealed that recent radiation readings at Fukushima show “contamination 100,000 times normal in water at reactor No. 2 and 1,850 times normal in the nearby sea.”

Massachusetts rainwater has also been found to be contaminated with low levels of radiation from Fukushima, indicating just how widespread the radioactive fallout has become. It’s not just the West Coast of North America that’s vulnerable, in other words: even the East Coast could receive dangerous levels of fallout if Fukushima suffers a larger release of radioactive material into the air.

Radioactive Xenon 133 from stricken Fukushima nuclear plant will cover most of the planet

Contradicting Barack Obama’s assertion last week that radiation from Japan’s stricken Fukushima nuclear plant would not even reach Hawaii, the mainland United States has been blanketed with radioactive Xenon 133 particles, while spent nuclear fuel pools at Fukushima have now reached boiling point and threaten to spew out more radioactive smoke.

Although health authorities insist that levels of the radionuclide Xenon 133 that have been measured are harmless, claims that such radiation would dissolve over the Pacific have been proven completely inaccurate. Indeed, the latest charts show that fallout from Fukushima will not just smother the United States, but most of the globe.

The chart below from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) shows the spread of Xenon 133 emitted from the Fukushima plant

10 Economic Disasters Which Threaten To Rip World Financial Markets To Shreds

The Economic Collapse
March 21, 2011

2011 has already been the most memorable year in ages and we haven’t even reached April yet.  Revolutions have swept the Middle East, an unprecedented earthquake and tsunami have hit Japan, civil war has erupted in Libya, the price of oil has been soaring and the entire globe is teetering on the brink of economic collapse.  It seems like almost everything that can be shaken is being shaken.  Unfortunately, it does not appear that things are going to settle down any time soon.  The Japanese economy has been dealt a critical blow, the European sovereign debt crisis could flare up again at any moment and the U.S. economy could potentially plunge into another recession by the end of the year.  The global economy and world financial markets were really struggling to recover even when things were relatively stable.  If all of this global instability gets even worse it could literally rip world financial markets apart…

#1 War In Libya

Do you think that the “international community” would be intervening in Libya if they did not have a lot of oil?  If you actually believe that, you might want to review the last few decades of African history.  Millions upon millions of Africans have been slaughtered by incredibly repressive regimes and the “international community” did next to nothing about it.

But Libya is different.

Libya is the largest producer of oil in Africa…

#2 Revolutions In The Middle East

Protests just seem to keep spreading to more countries in the Middle East.  On Friday, five Syrian protesters were killed by government forces in the city of Daraa.  Subsequently, over the weekend thousands of protesters reportedly stormed government buildings in that city and set them on fire.

Things in the region just seem to get wilder and wilder…

Japanese radiation reaches US

The first detection of radiation from Japan has been recorded along the West Coast of the United States, but the UN insists the levels of radiation are far below dangerous levels.

The UN’s Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization initially issued a statement alleging a radioactive plume could hit California by March 18 – they were right.

American health and nuclear officials, and US President Barack Obama himself have repeatedly said there is no real threat of radiation from Japan and any detected radiation would be in the safe zone.

However, many are still worried.

US suppliers of Geiger counters, gas masks, anti-radiation tablets and pet shelters are selling out of their supplies, many having to place back orders.

Obama has called for calm across the nation, asking the American people to trust the government. His words have had little impact as the people openly knock the information coming from the US and Japanese governments, and even the UN.

Helen Caldicott, the author of “Nuclear Power is not the Answer” explained disasters like this could cause nuclear catastrophe and are exactly why nuclear power is not a viable option for solving the planet’s energy woes.

She explained accidents are too risky and the IAEA and the World Health Organization are covering up just how devastating it could be.

The UN has been lying,” she claimed. “There is an unholy alliance and agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization going back decades.
